| The wood has such a nice grain, it would be a shame to cover it with paint. I'd be inclined to cover it with clear lacquer, my preference would be a matt lacquer. A friend of mine has just built a custom tele, but he used gloss lacquer which I find too shiny for my liking.
Good luck with the build. | |

| I built a really rubbish Flying V out of two sheets of plywood when I was your age in 1979. It took about 4 hours in total, the neck and the electrics where from a Les Paul copy. It was an awful guitar. | |

| I sprayed a Strat Pearl white a while ago and was lucky enough to "borrow" a local car crash repair garages' spraying room with a massive oven in so mine dried really quickly. Otherwise it takes a bit longer depending on the type of paint and conditions- ie temperature, humidity etc. It's quite important to get it dried quickly to minimise the chance of something in the air sticking to it. Good luck anyway, Simon | |

| Excellent choice! It's harder to spray, I think, but is more flexible and allows the body to move more than polyurethane. Trouble is it does mark easier because it's softer, but then again I'm led to believe that the marks also polish out easier, too. | |

| Nitro cellulose really ages nicely as well - it's what Gibson are trying to replicate with their faded finishes, but it is a bit soft. The back of my main SG (the cherry one I'm playing in my avatar) is really scratched on the back. | |
